Erika Dowell

I am Associate Director & Curator of Modern Books and Manuscripts at the Lilly Library, Indiana University. I acquire and manage materials created 1800 to the present and coordinate web development and digitization activities. I am a former president of the Indiana University Bloomington Faculty Council and am past-chair of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries. As an adjunct instructor in the Department of Information & Library Science, Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, I teach a course on the administration of manuscript collections (Z-584 Manuscripts).

I am also a lapsed PhD student in the Indiana University Department of History. I’m interested in the history of American capitalism in the Early Republic and how an emerging new economic order affected individuals and families.
